Our Commitment to Play:
OPAL at North Primary Schoo
l

At North, we are proud to be part of the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Primary Programme. This initiative supports us in transforming playtimes into rich, engaging experiences that promote creativity, problem-solving, cooperation and wellbeing. Our outdoor spaces are carefully designed to offer a wide range of opportunities for all children - whether that’s building, exploring, role-playing or enjoying quiet moments in nature. We believe that play is not separate from learning, it is a powerful form of learning in itself.

Our commitment to OPAL is rooted in Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that “every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child.” At our school, we honour this right by ensuring children have daily access to meaningful, inclusive, and self-directed play. Through OPAL, we are creating a culture where play is respected, celebrated, and integrated into the heart of school life.
