Out of This World Curriculum
A synopsis of our curriculum intent:
At North we have developed an ‘Out of this World’ foundation curriculum because:
We believe it is important to introduce children to experiences that they otherwise are unlikely to have, i.e. our project with the Orchestra of the Enlightenment, trips to key London Museums/Galleries. We believe in the value of real life learning experiences in developing children’s understanding.
Our curriculum is vocabulary rich as our children mostly learn English as an additional language - key topic vocabulary is identified and explicitly taught through the topic and across subjects. There is also an explicit approach to teaching academic language.
The wider curriculum enables children to develop fluency of basic skills - reading comprehension is a current focus for the school.
Learners develop subject thinking - ie musical thinking is central to deep and sustainable learning of music.
Taught knowledge is understood deeply and not just ‘received’ passively but worked on by the learner. It is thought about reasoned and discussed.
Thinking in the wider curriculum involves:
-
Looking for patterns
-
Comparing and contrasting
-
Explaining
-
Evaluating
The topic approach to learning is used, where this makes sense, because:
It helps the children see the links between the subjects.
It’s more fun to teach and learn using a theme
Academic Excellence
The transformative learning experiences at North Primary School are designed to help our students grow both in and out of the classroom. Each day is filled with opportunities to experience new educational, social, and emotional situations. Our teachers create a safe and open setting where they can help guide students in exploring the information and the world around them.
We follow a high academic standard as a guide for the creativity and leadership of our teachers. Our objectives are not set in stone, with occasional revisions developed in response to the latest research on educational innovations and theories.

Pupil Premium
Our Pupil Premium Leader is Viv Peasah
What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is an amount of money allocated to disadvantaged children in order to close the achievement gap.
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM), looked after children & service children and other pupils. Three categories of pupils are eligible:
-
Pupils recorded as ‘ever 6 FSM’ (pupils who are or have been eligible for FSM at any point during their 6 years of Primary school education)
-
Looked after children and those children who have been adopted from care
-
Children of Service personnel
